Marks & Spencer: development of the WR EcoBlade™
This project saw the development of an innovative new energy saving product, set to drive efficiencies in cold food storage within supermarkets, resulting in significant cost savings.
Wirth Research started discussions with Marks & Spencer in 2013. We originally approached the company to talk about our work in the commercial vehicle sector with their “Plan A” sustainability team. However, Marks & Spencer told us their biggest challenge, in relation to reducing energy consumption, was associated with their multi-deck refrigerated cabinets. They explained these cabinets are inherently inefficient, since they are open to the external store environment. Over the following couple of years, working closely with Marks & Spencer, Wirth Research’s expert team got to work. The result was the all-new, retrofit WR EcoBlade™, which has been proven to deliver significant energy savings in both lab testing and extensive in-store trialling.
